The preliminary task that Alex, Connor and I have been set is to film and edit a character opening a door, crossing the room then sitting and conversing with another character whom is sat in a chair opposite them.
For this task I have to be able to use the 180- degree rule, match on action and shot/reverse shot.
| 180-degree rule |
- Match on action is a film and video editing technique where the editor cuts from one shot to a another shot that matches the shot that was before.
- Shot/reverse shot enables us to show the conversation between two characters, allowing the audience to see each characters reaction.
- 180-degree rule is a basic guideline which is linked to the onscreen spatial relationship between characters, or objects. This rule is important as it helps the audience understand where everything is in the scene.
Within this we will also have to use continuity editing, as this is an editing style that aims to present the scene in a linear and chronological order to emphasise real-time.
Our plan:
- Our plan at the moment is to share the responsibilities of filming, editing, acting and artistic director. This is because it enables us to experiment and establish what we are able to do and which areas we are strongest in.
- We are hoping to film our scene in the medical room. As far as narrative we are still deciding and I will update you when have made a decision when Connor is back.
